This week I took a trip to Snocreek Alaskan Malamutes, the home of Bonnie & Jim Martin to fulfill a dream that has been 12 months in the making. I would like to introduce you all to Secret!!!! Our newest addition at Lioscarrig :) We can never thank Bonnie & Jim enough for not only letting us share our lives with this wonderful girl but also for their friendship, advice and for making me so welcome in their home. I learned so much from them both in a few short days.

Bonnie & Jim thank you from the bottom of our hearts for our beautiful SECRET & we promise she will be a cherished member of not only our pack but also of our family !!!!

With the wonderful foundation from both Snocreek & Monikoona Kennels I have a vision for Lioscarrig kennel's future which will hopefully help to improve the breed in ireland & will also help me create my vision of a malamute which is not only bred for purpose but also to the standard.

An Update of our exploits of the last few months

We have had quite a few trips since Birmingham in Ireland, the UK & France,  in Ireland we have competed in 6 shows and won 4 x Green Stars, 2 x Res Green Stars, 1 x CACIB, 3 x Res BOB and 1 x BOB. Limerick Ch Show was the highligh of our irish show season when a totally out of coat Ziva under breed Judge Mrs. R. Lahtovaara from Finnland, won 1st CH Bitch, Greenstar Bitch & BOB. Below is a photo of Ziva competing in the Group.

We took at trip to Blackpool, where in 30 degree heat and after 12 laps of the ring, Ziva thrilled us all under Breed Specialist John Philips by Winning 1st in Open Bitch & Res CC Once again making breed history being the 1st Irish Owned Alaskan malamute to win a Res CC in the UK

Next was a trip to winsor ch show where we didn't place in the breed classes (our only uk show this year where we did not win the open class) we did however compete with team MONIKOONA in the breeder stakes where we won BEST BREEDER IN BREED & WENT ON TO WIN BEST BREEDER IN GROUP!! I am so proud to be part of the MONIKOONA family

OMG our highlight of the year was when We travelled 2000 miles to San Hanore Les bains in France for The Alaskan Malamute Club De France Speciality Show 2011, On the saturday Ziva graded excellant, and went on to compete on the Sunday. Ziva was selected with 18/20 points (1 of only 4 bitches to do so) & then went on to place 1st in Open Bitch

Then Won the CAC

Then Best Bitch

AND Finally BEST IN SPECIALITY SHOW!!!!!! Thank you so much to Breed Specialists Cheryl Paterson from Canada & Jean-Luc Delente from France, for thinking so highly of Ziva!!! I would also like to say a Huge thank you to the Alaskan Malamute Club De France members & Board who made me feel so welcome, & Also to all our friends who cheered us on & celebrated with us afterwards.

Just 3 days after arriving home from France, Ziva & I were again back on a ferry this time heading to the UK and the AMCUK club show. for the 3rd time in 4 uk shows Ziva again won 1st in Open Bitch, and added another Res CC to her uk total of 3 x 1st open bitch, 1 x CC & 2 x Res CC in only 4 shows.

However our main reason for travelling to AMCUK was not to compete, it was to pick up our newest addition at Lioscarrig. Once again we are so gratefull to Izzy at Monikoona for trusting us with yet another of her babies. This time it is our long awaited Black & White MONIKOONA APHRODITE IN LIOSCARRIG aka TARA, we are so thrilled with our goddess and have so many hopes for our future with her as part of the team.

As the days are getting colder, we have decided to concentrate on working our dogs for the winter, and we also have an exciting secret which we will share with you all soon. in the mean time please enjoy some photos of one of our outings on the rig. Our daughter Grace who is 7 is prooving to be quite the mini musher.

Grace on Board, with Keoma & Ziva doing the honours!!!

What a Week !!!

WOW what a week for Lioscarrig. We travelled to the UK to visit Ziva's Breeder Izzy & to attend Birmingham National Dog Show, and boy are we glad we made the trip!!!!! Liv & Ziva on a road trip normally means trouble LOL :D. This time we also had Cardigan Welsh Corgi "Mac" who was travelling from his Breeder's Home (Jazenta) to his new home in Norway, via the UK.

We left for Rosslare at 3.30pm on tuesday afternoon, took the 9.15 pm ferry to Fishguard and drove to Farnham in Surrey to stay with Izzy, we arrived about 9.30am on wednesday. We spent most of wednesday having a grooming lesson from Izzy, while getting Ziva & her sister Blanca ready for the show the following day.

Mac Was a huge hit with Blanca, who spent her time talking & wooing to him,  while all the time being careful not to flatten him with her paws :)

Next day was an early start to travel to the show, the sun came up and oh did it shine on Lioscarrig & Monikoona Kennels. Open Bitch was a huge class of 23 entries, Ziva thrilled us by placing first, earning her Stud book Number & qualifing for CRUFTS for Life !!!

Then came the challenge for the CC, My knees were shaking !! but Ziva took it in her stride next thing i knew Judge Mary Deats was handing me a Rosette & Card that made my day, IR CH MONIKOONA CHASING RAINBOWS OVER LIOSCARRIG IR JR CH, CJW'10, CW'10 had won her first CC torward her GB Championship. I didn't believe it and asked the Judge "are you sure, me??" I think I'm still in shock, then i think i jumped up & down and danced about a bit LOL

Ziva winning the CC was not only a huge achievement for me but also for her Breeder Izzy from Monikoona as this was the 2nd year running a Monikoona bred bitch took the CC @ Birmingham National, with Monikoona Behind Brown Eyes having won CC in 2010

On saturday Ziva stayed with Izzy while I took Baby Mac to Heathrow Airport to begin his flight to his new home, and due to a mix up by BMI ended up not being back until Sunday, when I pick up Ziva and headed to Banger on Dee in North Wales to stay with my Brother Tony, His partner Katie & Little Charlie, (who would charm sweeties from scrouge),we headed back for the ferry home on Monday evening and arrived back at Lioscarrig Kennel at 5 am on Tuesday Morning. We drove 1227 miles over the week, but for that pice of paper & Rosette, it was SO WORTH IT.  I have to give a special mention to my little fiat punto, which for a small car, it fit 1 malamute, 1 person, 1 dog rig, grooming kit, luggage, and all the other show stuff. and still made it home, the boot scraping of the road when we went over a bump was just a minor detail LOL

Thank you Izzy & John from Monikoona for looking after me & Ziva for the week, and also Tony, Katie & Charlie for picking up & minding the rig (even if Tony didn't think we would fit it in the car on the way home, Katie & I showed him how wrong he was, even if we had to take the wheels off to fit it in) thanks Liz for minding Grace and the troublemaking mal puppies, and Chris for making sure Diesel behaved himself and the house didn't burn down LOL

We finally made the decision, living in the town is not suitable of for either us or our dogs, so after months of searching we finally found our new home in Lyreacrompane near Listowel in Co Kerry. A 3 bedroom bungalow, with outbuildings & sheds, surrounded by woodlands & Bogs, the perfect base for building our dream.

A weekend spent moving, another spent fencing & we are nealy sorted, Ziva & Diesel know the area well as one of our favourite walks is approx 2 miles form our new home. so they have settled in well. Its been a busy 12 months for us and 1 of many firsts. Our first Malamute, our first Irish Champion, our First Junior Champion, our first celtic winner, First Celtic Junior Winner, We also attended our first World Dog Show. exciting times are ahead and we are really looking forward to 2011, New additions are planned & more exciting trips to Europe and one of the most exciting for us will be our first Trip to CRUFTS !!!!
